The All Mighty MEDIA
We know who control's this world, its not god, its the media. with all this being said, how do you feel about the Media setting the STandard for what a man and women should look and act like?  you know, From the Cover Girl Co, To the Rap , pop, and Rock Video's, do you feel the pressure to be what the MEDIA finds Ideal? Not allowing a women to express her natural beauty and covering it with Cakes of make-up, not allowing men to be gentle and forcing them to be "HARD". how does this affect your life knowing the media is showing your kids how they should and should not Look?  Im my oppinion, i think its difficult to express myself in that of a natural beauty, because even tho im not skinny, the media would still try to compair me with someone like Queen LaTifa or jen Hudson, althou i cant rap or sing....so yes....its hard when the media controls almost every aspect of my life.

"Mike dearest your missisng my point, my point is if you have children, this "MEDIA" is putting pressure on kids who just want to be themselves, but they get heckled at if they dont fit the Media "ideal". I do agree with you with the model thing, if they want to look like a walking skelly, then thats thier choice. My thing about this, is the MEDIA is showing little boyz that this is what beauty is... Same thing with woman, Male rappers/Rockers are putting the pressure on young boyz, thinking they should be armed to the teeth with jewelry or have long hair and a guitar, Just to get a girl intrested in them. OR a girl has to be similar to Halli or tyra"

I do not disagree with your point. The media has a lot of impact on the lives of children. This, however, is one of the drawbacks behind expanding technologies and that sort of thing. In earlier generations, things like the Internet were not a factor, so information has progressively gotten easier to attain since the 80s and earlier. Parents need to be more involved in the lives of their children, especially in this age where information is everywhere. Overall, we are a much better society now than we were several decades ago. Attitudes about homosexuality have started to change. People are actually talking about letting gays, fellow human beings, have the right to serve in the military openly. Minorities are beginning to have more of a voice thanks to things like the Internet. Abortion and marijuana decriminalization are seriously being discussed rather than swept under the rug.

Unfortunately, all societies new and old have negative realities that must be addressed and dealt with. Saying that our society is somehow worse off because of the media is an overstatement. Personally, I am glad that the information age has allowed me to have this discussion, whereas otherwise, it would not be possible. Let's look forward, not backwards.

Those Teachings are Quickly left at the door once they walk from the house, in this day and age, children are more conserned on whats "Tight","cool",or "RAW" to earn popularity points with friends. Any smart adult would know if someone warned them theres a threatening guy with a gun, do you think the adult would simply check they guy out? im pretty sure...your awnser is no. But a child, will go see anyway, and untill that child gets hurt, they will truely have a lesson learned. this to me is a very real and dangerous problem. This is what i think the MEdia...pushes on them.

toya babe the media is not the only culprit in this. it's also society that's putting more of the pressure on what image is supposed to be. the media and these fake ass reality shows are just perpetuating what image and sex is supposed to be. it's basically like bbws and fat people are disgusting in this jacked up culture we live in and it shouldnt be like that at all. all the media and society is doing is giving todays generation of kids a false sense of reality with all these "reality" shows to find love, instant millions and what not and in a sense it's making these kids not want to work hard to get those millions. it's all about instant fame and fortune. as a god parent to 4 beautiful children i make it a point to teach them the values that they should possess and one of those being with hard work and dedication comes great reward. i agree with u that these kids are learning about sex thru schools cuz we all had a sex ed class when we were in school but they are learning about it earlier today because of what is being put out there on tv. we didnt have all this in the 80s. the closest thing to sexy that i remember was watching baywatch and maybe another show but today it's all over the place

the fact is that parents cant watch thier kids in a "school" environment...(how do u think kids know about sex so early) there is no sheild where these kids need it most. sure kids will feel love from thier parents, but parents can only do so much in the face of "fitting in". all in all, thats what it boils down to. this whole agenda, will desifer whether your kid is the bully or the bullied.

i completely agree with mr edwards, plus as a parent it is ur responsibility to pay enough attention to ur kids, make them feel loved and valuable so they wont feel the need to try to be like someone else

As a parent you just hope that the values & life lessons that you've taught your child will be enough to overcome the temptation of peer preesure, either from the media or their daily environment.

ME PERSONALLY, that's why the perpetuate those images, becuz they are unattainable. if we keep on striving to reach those types of standards will become disoriented and out of touch with ourselves. shit, even the models in those pics dnt look like that!! it's in they're interest to keep us occupied with vain things such as this. those who remain occupied in themselves careless and less about theyre families and what's going on around them. that way they can control more of what's affecting u on a daily basis cuz they already got the psychological part down pat.

First of all, I am not religious myself, but I am sure some people would take issue with your suggestion that God does not control the world. ok

As far as your question is concerned, why set a standard in the first place? Is it really all that vital to see to it that people dress a certain way? As long as no one is being hurt by a person's actions, people should be free to do as they wish. Anything less is not indicative of a free society.

Furthermore, while I do agree that models are often encouraged to lose a lot of weight, I cannot really feel all that bad for models. If they do not like having to be uber-skinny, they should get out of that business and/or start an advocacy group that focuses on the encouragement of models of all sizes and shapes.
